Cruz Retains Title
Last night at Art of Fighting 7, Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz made his first successful title defense against heavy handed striker Dave "Pay Me" Yost. Cruz was able to trip Yost and use his superior ground game to finish the fight in the first round. Cruz is now undefeated in his last 5 fights and hasn't lost since a controversial 2006 loss to Andrei Arlovski.
In the Co-main event, California native Geovanni Sarran submitted WWE Wrestler and K-1 kickboxer Imani Lee via rear naked choke in the first round. Geovanni spotted at least 70 pounds to the massive 312 lbs. Lee but was able to score the take down and take Imani's back, eventually sinking in the rear naked choke.
Tom Sauer returned to the cage winning over Liron Wilson from California via second round TKO due to strikes. Sauer was the title contender versus Marcio Cruz in the inaugural WFO Heavyweight title bout and lost via TKO in the second round. With a win over Wilson Sauer re-enters the hunt for another title shot.
Edson "Little Tiger" Berto defeated Greg Laughran via Heel Hook in the first round. Laughran vs. Berto was a highly publicized fight, expected to be a stand up battle but Berto used superior ground skills to score his first victory in the Art of Fighting. Edson was awarded "Submission of the Night" for his text book ground work.
In the "Fight of the Night" tilt, Mark "Baby Hulk Serkez and Keith "Red Bearded Assasin" McCabe dealt a grueling 3 round stand up war much to the delight of the thousands in attendance at the Sun Dome. Serkez was victorious by a very close 29-28 unanimous decision with the difference in the war being a few take downs he scored throughout the bout. Serkez is undefeated in Art of Fighting and has now taken home his third straight bonus. As the initial Art of Fighting middleweight champion fight still looms, Serkez has taken his place as the top contender.
